Owner and master craftsman Len Berkowitz trained in California before moving to the Baltimore-Washington metro area to open Great Panes in 1980. Today Len handles all repair and restoration work; glass cutting, estimates and on-site consultations; and window removal and installation.
Co-owner Sherry Fackler-Berkowitz brings nearly 30 years of experience to her work at Great Panes. Sherry works with lead, copper foil, and creates one-of-a-kind fused glass jewelry and glass beads. Sherry is Great Panes’ glazier, and handles soldering, mold making, slumping, fusing, and the restoration of bent panel lamps.
John Crawford is a Maryland Institute College of Art graduate who has been the studio designer at Great Panes for the past fifteen years. John hand paints and fires ecclesiastical figures, decorative borders and elements, memorial plaques, and fine details in custom designs.
After working as an engineer for several years, Tim developed a keen interest in glasswork. Tim’s nearly 40 years of experience in the glass industry includes experience as head of the art department at Crystal Interiors, creating custom paint colors for glass, and his specialty: etching. Tim’s keen attention to detail and eye for glasswork has led to an unparalleled expertise in etched glass.
Zack is a finance major at Towson University. He has designed several pieces of stained and etched glass for the studio. He also makes the patterns, cuts glass, and hand paints on the glass.
